The Faculty of Physics, Chemistry, Electronics
and Petroleum Technology is one of the most prestigious of the
Ovidius University of Constanţa. Even though it was founded in its
present structure only recently, being established in 1999 by
reorganizing the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Natural
Sciences, the faculty continues a tradition of higher education in
Constanţa started in 1961. The physics and chemistry programs were
initiated in 1961, while the chemical engineering program in petroleum
technology was started in 1977.
The past ten years have been the most dynamic, with expansions in terms of academic programs offered, in terms of academic staff, infrastructure and number of students. At the bachelor's level, there are two 3-year programs, in Physics and in Chemistry, and four 4-year programs, in Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering (Petroleum technology and petrochemistry as well as Food chemistry and biochemical technologies) and Electronic Engineering. At the master's level, there are three 2-year programs in Physics , Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. We have now over 35 full time and associated faculty members, an auxiliary staff of about 15, and about 700 students.
